"We need to guarantee equal rights and civil rights and say that, here in America, workers have the right to organize -- women have the right to choose - and justice belongs to everyone regardless of race or gender or sexual orientation." -- Senator John Kerry "I would like to take issue with the notion that marriage needs to be defended from lesbian and gay families. There are many threats to marriage these days, and half of all marriages end in divorce, but heterosexuals have long succeeded in failing at marriage without any help from lesbian and gay couples. I really cannot see how people who consider themselves 'pro-marriage' could be so gung-ho about denying so basic a right to so many stable, law abiding, tax paying, loving families." -- Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), 03/26/04 "The Bush budget documents the fundamental failure of the Bush Administration to understand the real needs of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community." -- Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Civil Rights and Justice. Democrats are unwavering in our support of equal opportunity for all Americans. That's why we've worked to pass every one of our nation's Civil Rights laws, and every law that protects workers. Most recently, Democrats stood together to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act. It emphasizes the fundamental principles of inclusion and national unity that respect the rules of law and human dignity. California Democrats believe that the American immigration system should be inclusive, fair, and just. Immigration must be consistent with American values of freedom, opportunity, compassion, and respect for human rights. California Democratic Party: Women. California is the proud home of pioneering women who have blazed new trails in business, entrepreneurship, culture and politics. We proudly and vigorously support a woman's right to choose how to use her mind, her body and her time. Democrats respect women as full partners in family and society. Research Documents Protecting and Expanding Civil Rights in America. Just 45 days after the September 11 attacks, with virtually no debate, Congress passed the USA Patriot Act. Many parts of this sweeping legislation take away checks on law enforcement and threaten the very rights and freedoms Democrats have striven mightily to protect. |
