America's Security in the 21st Century

In laying out his vision for national security, President Obama declares that military might alone is not enough to protect America in the 21st century. A strong economy, a commitment to innovation as well as our fundamental dedication to human dignity and the rule of law are elemental in securing America's future. America leads by engaging the world. But make no mistake: This engagement is no end in itself. The international order we seek is one that can resolve the challenges of our times - countering violent extremism and insurgency; stopping the spread of nuclear weapons and securing nuclear materials; combating a changing climate and sustaining global growth; helping countries feed themselves and care for their sick; resolving and preventing conflict, while also healing its wounds.
