Clean campaigning in San Jose

WHEREAS:  The San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce political action committee (COMPAC) has mailed out campaign literature that is hypocritical, misleading and in violation of campaign law in San Jose; and

WHEREAS:  The money used to generate these mailings are generated from various donations and the annual COMPAC Barbecue; and

WHEREAS:  The COMPAC Barbecue is financially successful because local elected officials participate in this event: and attending this event is, as COMPAC states, a way for Silicon Valley Political leaders Òto support the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce political action committee - or COMPAC.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:  That elected officials and candidates who do not support COMPACÕs recent illegal actions be asked to boycott the upcoming August 2006 Barbecue; and to not ask for or accept endorsements or support from the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce and/or COMPAC until COMPAC has stated and demonstrated a willingness to obey the spirit of the law; and to repudiate the unethical behavior of COMPAC in the San Jose Mayoral race.  Further, the Santa Clara County Democratic Party urges the Chamber to publicly apologize for their unethical behavior.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:  That the Santa Clara County Democratic Party reach out to all locally elected officials and business leaders to ask that they not participate in the upcoming COMPAC Barbecue.
