Oppose Big Four Gambling Deals
WHEREAS, the only California Indian
casino workers who have successfully organized unions are the 5000 who have
organized under some version of the neutrality and card check standard which
was embodied in compacts negotiated by certain Indian tribes in 2004, and
WHEREAS, all Indian casino workers
should have available this same neutraility and
card check standard which is the dominant national organizing model for the
commercial gaming industry but is not included in the Big 4 Gambling Deals
negotiated by the Schwarzenegger administration which
instead rely on the deeply flawed Tribal Labor Relations Ordinance from 1999
under which no workers have been organized and rather have experienced
intimidation and harrassment, so
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the
Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee opposes the Big 4 Gambling
Deals negotiated with the Agua Caliente,
Sycuan, Morongo and Pechanga
Tribes and urges that California voters oppose this compact when it is
brought up by initiative on the February 5, 2008 ballot, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVELD, that the
Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee urges the California Democratic
Party to similarly oppose the Big 4 Gambling Deals at its November 2007
Executive Board Meeting.
