Oppose Big Four Gambling Deals

WHEREAS, workers at California's Indian casinos deserve the same rights as all California workers to on-the-job protections includng living wages, affordable benefits, respect on the job and the enforceable right to organize, and


WHEREAS, the only California Indian casino workers who have successfully organized unions are the 5000 who have organized under some version of the neutrality and card check standard which was embodied in compacts negotiated by certain Indian tribes in 2004, and


WHEREAS, all Indian casino workers should have available this same neutraility and card check standard which is the dominant national organizing model for the commercial gaming industry but is not included in the Big 4 Gambling Deals negotiated by the Schwarzenegger administration which instead rely on the deeply flawed Tribal Labor Relations Ordinance from 1999 under which no workers have been organized and rather have experienced intimidation and harrassment, so


THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee opposes the Big 4 Gambling Deals negotiated with the Agua Caliente, Sycuan, Morongo and Pechanga Tribes and urges that California voters oppose this compact when it is brought up by initiative on the February 5, 2008 ballot, and 


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVELD, that the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee urges the California Democratic Party to similarly oppose the Big 4 Gambling Deals at its November 2007 Executive Board Meeting.
