Santa Clara County Democrats in Action

Looking for something to do this weekend? Or do you need to work off all that anger at the Bush/McCain/Palin horrors? We have plenty of activities that will not only keep you busy, but allow you to help make sure Obama and our local Democrats are elected in November.

How About a Party to Start the Weekend?

Join us for a Debate Watch Party at our headquarters, 43 E. Gish Road, Second Floor, San Jose, CA (right off of North First Street). Party starts at 5 pm, more information can be found here.

Central San Jose out of your way? Do you live in the northern part of the County? We have a Debate Watch Party just for you, hosted by the Dean Club. This event will start at 5 pm and is a potluck. Please bring a dish and/or a beverage to share. More information is available on our calendar.

After recovering from the debate, spend some time this weekend precinct walking for Democrats:

    Democratic Party Precinct Walk
    09/27/2008 09:00 am
    09/28/2008 11:00 am
2102 Almaden Road, Central San Jose

We will be raching out to voters by precinct walking every Saturday and Sunday between now and election day. Call 408-266-3790 for information.

Or you can help us register voters and hand out literature on Sunday, September 28th at the San Jose Mariachi Festival in downtown San Jose. The table will be set up from 9 am to 7 pm. Contact Judy at 408-453-2135 for more information or to volunteer.

Can't help us over the weekend? We will be making phone calls out of our two phone bank locations Sunday to Thursday every week. The phone calls start at 3:00 on Sundays and 5:30 on weekdays. The phone banks are located at 2102 Almaden Road and 43 E. Gish Road in San Jose.

Our headquarters, located on the second floor at 43 E. Gish Road, is open every day from 10 am to 8 pm. Just stop on by when you have time to help out.

You can also visit our calendar to find upcoming and ongoing events and volunteer opportunities.

    Democrats in Local Elections

Most of the attention is on the Presidential election this year, but there are other important races on the November 4 ballot. The Santa Clara County Democratic Party has endorsed candidates in many of the city council and school board races. For example, in an important contest, Rose Herrera is a strong Democrat running against a reactionary Republican in San Jose District 8 (see below). Other competitive contests include those for Mountain View and Santa Clara City Councils. For a complete list of the candidates endorsed by the Democratic Party, visit our endorsements page. Check back in early October, as many of the school board races will be endorsed at the October 2 meeting of the Democratic Central Committee.

    Local and State Ballot Measures

Your ballot will be full of a variety of local and state ballot measures. Are you unsure how to vote? The Democratic Party has taken official positions on many of the measures and initiatives. All of our recommendations are available on our website. If you have any questions about any local candidates or measures, email us at info@sccdp.org and we will do our best to find an answer for you.

Help Rose Herrera Get Elected to San Jose City Council

Rose Herrera's run-off campaign for San Jose City Council will have an official kickoff on Sunday, September 28, starting at 1:30pm and lasting until about 3pm. It will take place in front of Java Junction and Secret Oasis Day Spa (they are next to each other) at 4075 Evergreen Village Square (Aborn and Ruby Road).

Rose's campaign is also sponsoring a food drive at Evergreen Village Square this week, ending at the kickoff. Several stores have barrels, including Java Junction, Secret Oasis Day Spa, Bank of America, Quizno's Subs, and Silvercreek Fitness and Physical Therapy. Or just bring your donations to the kickoff on Sunday.

Dust off those walking shoes and show your support for Rose Herrera. Share a light breakfast from 10:00-11:00am followed by a neighborhood walk. Volunteers typically walk for only 2-3 hours, and sunscreen is provided! This is a wonderful opportunity to get out in the great weather and get the word out on an amazing neighborhood candidate. Or join us in calling voters. Come on down to 3051 Marston Way or call 408-274-6007 for information.

Paid for by the Santa Clara County Democratic Party (sccdp.org) and not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.
