George Lakoff - The Language of Politics

George Lakoff, Professor of Linguistics at UC Berkeley and author of "Moral Politics" provides a penetrating analysis of how neo-conservatives and the religious right frame their reactionary politics in seductive language and metaphor. He shows progressives how to develop a message that reaches the majority of Americans across party lines. First Congregational Church of Berkeley, 2345 Channing Way.

Join the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club at this important political event as we move into the 2004 election season. If you or your group is interested in being listed as a co-sponsor, please contact Vicki Cosgrove at 510.733.0996 or vlcandy@comcast.net. There is no charge to a co-sponsorship, only a commitment to get your members to the event and the beginning of the coalition building we will need to beat George W Bush.

Call to Action May 22

It is that time again! We will have another motivating Saturday morning Call to Action Meeting on May 22nd from 9am-12noon. We will meet in the County Building cafeteria (70 West Hedding St., San Jose).

In addition to hearing from the Kerry campaign, the California Democratic Party, and the Call To Action committees, we are excited to have Kate Forrest present a discussion called "How to talk to people who don't think like us". The goal will be to have us develop skills to discuss political issues and Democratic beliefs in a convincing way. Kate Forrest is the Co-founder, along with her husband Leonard Salle, of the Commonweal Institute, a communication, education and research organization committed to advancing progressive principles.

Please join us for this exciting morning of activism. And, don't worry if you are a new volunteer and have not participated in the Call to Action activities thus far; we will have an introductory section to bring you up to speed. You will have a great opportunity to participate and add your own creativity, talent, time and energy into really making California the leader in reclaiming our country.

Please invite any of your friends or colleagues who are interested in getting involved with the Democratic Party. See you on the 22nd!

RSVP to 408-445-9500 or volunteer@sccdp.org.
