Patriot Act Town Hall Meeting

You are invited to a Town Hall meeting on civil rights and the Patriot Act.

Presenters will be:
Lawrence Lessig, Constitutional Law Professor, Stanford University
Vik Amar, Constitutional Law Professor, Hastings Law College
Ro Khanna, Democratic Candidate for US Congress and Civil Rights Lawyer

Monday, January 26, at 7:00 pm. Campaign Headquarters, 111 W. San Bruno Ave, San Bruno, CA, 650-583-7002.

We will be discussing the threats to civil liberties posed by the Patriot
Act and other recent actions, including the potential for the new
government powers to be abused against ordinary citizens.

In October of 2001, as our nation was reeling from the terrible events of
September 11th, Congress passed legislation that gave the Attorney
General and the FBI sweeping new powers. This law, known as the USA
Patriot Act, includes many provisions that undermine the Bill of Rights
and are unnecessary to keep us safe. There was little debate by members
of Congress, most of whom did not even read the bill; even most Democrats
voted in favor of the law. More recently, in November of last year,
Congress passed another law that allows an even greater expansion of
government powers and greater opportunity for abuse. This time, most
Democrats stood up against the new law, but many-including the incumbent
Congressman-did not.

At this event, you can meet Democratic Congressional candidate Ro Khanna,
who is running on an anti-war, anti-Patriot Act platform in the 12th
Congressional district (San Mateo County and parts of San Francisco
County) and is committed to protecting the civil rights of all Americans.

The forum will be held at our campaign headquarters at 111 West San Bruno
Avenue in San Bruno, on the corner of San Bruno and Huntington. It's a
few blocks from San Bruno BART and San Bruno CalTrain station. Please
feel free to drop by our campaign office anytime. You can give us a call
at 650-583-7002, send us an email at info@voteRo.com, or visit our
website at www.voteRo.com. I hope to see you on Monday night!
