Phil Trounstine, who is founder and director of the Survey and Policy Research Institute at S J State University, will be the speaker at the September 12 Century Club Luncheon. Trounstine is former political editor of the Mercury News and former communications director for Governor Davis. Always provocative, Phil will be talking about the recall election. Community Forum To Discuss The Impact of 9/11 on Minorities and The Patriot Act and its Effect on Civil Liberties, Co sponsored by India Community Center, San Jose Mercury News, Santa Clara County Library and Asian Law Alliance.
After the passage of the Patriot Act, there have been numerous concerns over the infringement of the civil rights of minorities. This has led us to question whether we as a nation, and in particular minority groups, a possible threat are safer in this post 9/11 climate and whether these actions are justified in the name of national security.
About the Forum
What: An informative session and discussion of the effects of the Patriot Act on the community as a whole and minority groups in particular.

The South County Democratic Club’s next meeting will take place on Sunday, September 20th at 1:00 pm at the home of Susan and Ralph McKuhen at 3325 Dryden Avenue in Gilroy. The meeting will precede a fundraiser BBQ at the same location.
The meeting agenda will include an endorsement vote on opposition to Proposition 54, discussion and decision on whether the Club should endorse in Governor replacement election, an endorsement vote on Cruz Bustamante, and informational reports from candidates and their campaigns.
The Fundraiser BBQ will take place from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the doors for Club members, $25 in advance and $30 at the door for non-members, $10 for ages 11-20, $5 foe ages 5-10 and free under age 5.
Both the meeting and fundraiser are open to the public.
